About Me

Hello!
Thank you for finding this space. I believe that travelling should be accessible for everybody. It brings different emotions to everyone, just as everyone travels differently. As rewarding as it is, there is preparation involved and a little bit of assumed “know-how”. I hope this site enables someone to do something that they weren’t able to before, and go out and explore.

Endless skies in Manitoba

About Me

I grew up one hour west of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on the Canadian prairies. The first time I flew internationally without my parents I was 16. Ten years later the thrill has not faded. I have made travelling a necessary priority in my life and would not have it any other way.

Keywords in My Life:

Hot water bottle | Everywhere I have lived, I have bought a hot water bottle. Luckily they are inexpensive, and are often left behind so I have left many hot water bottles in many locations! But still necessary to have every time!

Lists | I am a confessed list maker. I need a list for everything, and sometimes make lists of things just to be able to check them off- I do not understand how people do without!

Sleep | There are many indulgences that I do not take part in (lactose intolerant= no ice cream!), but I think that a good lie-in can save the world.  Put it on the list and it will happen!

Background

I have been lucky thus far to incorporate travelling into my education. I fully believe that it was all worth it, and will be well used in the future too.

Here is some background about what I have been doing for the last 10 years:

  • Spent 3 years at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada working towards a degree in Honours Biochemistry
  • Completed a 1-year exchange in Paris with the MICEFA program
  • Went back to Waterloo to finish my last term of undergrad, graduated with a degree in Honours Biochemistry and a minor in French
  • Spent another 4 months in Paris and completed the CELTA at ILC France
  • Lived for one year in Barcelona while doing a master’s degree in Plant Biotechnology at the UAB

I want to write this out because everyone entering into university, or any path after high school, expects that they should know what to do and have a plan. I am here to tell you that it is ok not to. Out of high school I chose biochemistry based on the fact that I didn’t want to study English or rocks. During the summers between terms I worked at an agricultural research farm, which made me interested in plants and agriculture. That is how I decided to do my master’s in plant biotech. My point is to enjoy the journey, learn what you like and don’t like, but give everything your best effort. It is important to get benefits from every opportunity that you have, whether that is the people you meet or the good references that you gain, and direct those towards your goals in the future.

I currently work as the Research Manager for a company which provides services to plant breeders.
